Pink Chinoiserie

Pink is not a color that leaps to mind when you think of Chinoiserie. But here interior designer Mary McDonald combines two of her favorite things and mine-pink and Chinoiserie in this stunning sitting room. The color on the walls is Benjamin Moore Coral Pink 2003-50. I adore all the elements of this room-the zebra rug, blue and white Chinese porcelain, pink tufted chairs, gilt pagoda mirror, striped pillows, her use of symmetry. Nobody does modern Chinoiserie better than Mary McDonald. I would be tempted to use this idea in an entrance foyer with the coral pink walls, a wonderful table flanked by two oversized blue and white temple jars, and a gold pagoda mirror. It would be a dazzling entrance into ones home.

  2. Just a wonderful look - really fresh. I'm surprised by the use of the hall table too. I've seen pieces like this before and they struck me as rather stodgy - but it looks fantastic. Think outside the box!

  3. I know many designers find Mary's work to cliche' but I love it! This is one of my favorites.

  4. Sanity Fair- So true about the hall table-I would not have gravitated toward this table, but it really anchors a space that could have been too girly.

  5. Dumbwit Tellher-I agree-I love Mary McDonald. Shelter magazines are full of disastrous examples of designers trying to be original. I'll take elegant and timeless over original any day of the week. Thanks for stopping by. I use to love Bonwit Teller-your blog name is the best ever!

  6. The rug is really what makes this room pop! I've been seeing so much of zebra rugs here lately that I'm a tad over them, but here it reminds me again, why I liked them in the first place!

  7. The Antiques Diva-It does work so well here. I think the heavy wood hall table and zebra rug add a masculine vibe and ground this otherwise very feminine look.
