Melissa Rufty

The best Southern interior designers know how to use Chinoiserie in a style that is classic yet modern, but never ever trendy. I have featured before Phoebe Howard who is a perfect example of this. Today we look at New Orleans interior designer Melissa Rufty of MMR Interiors. Her Southern style is elegant and classic imbued with modern and chic, wonderful use of color, and a lovely but subtle dose of Chinoiserie. As we say goodbye to Southern Accents who carried the banner of showing us such talented Southern designers, we in the blogging community can perhaps carry this on in our own way.

So many good ideas here - I'm not much for outdoor decorating, but I love the combination of patterns/colors on the patio.

What a tragedy about the magazine. When is this going to stop? I really hope that when the economy DOES come around, we see a new burst of energy with the re-issuing of shelter magazines.

SF-I love to garden and love outdoor decor. This is lovely. I think the shelter magazine closings have something to do with the economy and the downturn in the housing market drying up advertising revenue, but also much to do with the fact that people are no longer reading newspapers and magazines as much, largely because of the internet. This trend will not change when the economy improves.

The Glam Lamb-As far as obsessions go, gold bamboo is a good one.

Gorgeous interiors -- especially love those gorgeous purple headboards in the first shot. And those linens are perfection...

I had to take another look at your splendid post. I'm loving the monograms on the pillows and towels in the first couple of pictures. What a nice way to tie the bath and bedrooms together. Maybe I should move to the South if this is how they do it!

Kitty-Smart girl-much can be learned from studying all the elements in these rooms.

She is one of my favorite designers....I think because she loves coral too.

Style Redux 2 said...

Sande-To paraphrase Tony Duquette, coral is my neutral.

I just adore that top bedroom! I've saved it for my "when you have a house" file. :)

Jenn-We all seem to love that wonderful bedroom. I love the twin beds too-perfect for a guest bedroom or child's room.
