Chinoiserie Art for the Home

I am often asked about Chinoiserie artwork for the home. I have had wonderful luck on eBay and at thrift stores and flea markets. Here is a little tour of some pieces in my home to get you started. None were expensive, but I love them all. Above, a pair of botanicals from a calendar with black and gold frames that add a subtle Chinoiserie look. A tip-Cavallini makes the most beautiful art calendars in the world-perfect for framing. Below, an antique Chinese silk fragment found on eBay that I had matted in silk and framed in gold bamboo.

One of a pair of camellia botanicals I have framed in black and gold in my powder room.

A pair of junk ships painted on silk I found on eBay.

A recent oil painting thrift store find.

Four camellia botanicals framed in gold bamboo in my dressing room.

A flea market find.

I really like this antique oil painting I found on eBay-I love pagodas.

A large Chelsea House oil I bought at a going out of business sale.

I just got these in the mail yesterday-a pair of hand painted on silk Chelsea House paintings on eBay.

Kitty-Thanks. Gold bamboo is definitely my "go to" for framing in a Chinoiserie style.

Beth you have amassed lovely finds. My favorite has to be one of yours, the ebay find that looks like they are dining under a tent. All of them are terrific finds you lucky girl.
Happy weekend to you ~

Scott-Georgetown Flea Market!

What fun. Even the fleas in Georgetown are interesting. With your love for Chinoiserie and turquoise, you need to consider adding a print of Monet's La Japonais: Mrs. Monet in blond wig and glorious kimono that drapes like a fan across the canvas. The original is at Boston FA museum. My first sight made me gasp. I see you in pink wellies, in the rain at the Georgetown market with mission focus, snapping up these little lovelies with great glee!

Home Before Dark-A wonderful painting and a wonderful museum. My husband is from Boston and I love going to the Boston Fine Arts Museum. I do enjoy the Georgetown Flea Market. I will be meeting Eddie Ross at a diner party next week and may learn some of his pointers.

I love all your selections -- they're so personal. I also love how you've framed so many of them in gold bamboo.
