After being stuck in the house all weekend after a record blizzard, I decided to work outside today to try to remove the 20 inches of snow from my shrubs. As I worked outside, a burglar made off with my purse including cash, driver's license, all credit cards, checkbook, debit card, etc. etc. After discovering the burglary and calling 911, the police thought the burglar was still in my house, and armed police searched my home while I stood outside in the freezing cold not knowing whether my house had been ransacked or whether my dog was o.k. Izzy and the house are fine, but I am a bit frazzled.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. Thank goodness you and your dog are fine. The ordeal of straightening out the credit cards, etc., especially at Christmas, is awful. I hope your day today will be a much better one.
oh my goodness, I am so sorry! So glad that the rest of the house, your dog, and YOU are OK but certainly not what you need to deal with right now. I think you may be "in the neighborhood"- my girlfriend's sister-in-law (7mos pregnant) was mugged on the steps of her townhouse in DC on Friday- her purse was caught on her arm and the guy dragged her 30 feet (after pushing her and her 2-year old son down the stairs). Unfortunately, this time of year can bring out the worst.
My point in all of this- is I'm so glad you're physically OK!

Beth, I am so sorry this happened. The good news is that you and Izzy are fine. But that sense of violation won't dissipate soon. Scary feeling. Even in our smallish town (under 90,000), here in the middle of Kansas (no where?), the police are urging us to keep our doors locked at all times. What was/is hardest for me is to put the garage door down overtime I come in for a tool or something as I garden. After planting way too many garage door openers (haven't sprouted, yet), I did go keyless. Every time I punch in my number, I always feel a bit of sorrow about the way the world has turned.
My heart goes out to you as you sort through the mess.

I never garden without wearing an apron. In it is my cell phone & house key. Along with pruners.
Yes, I look like a dork but at least I'm prepared.

I am glad you are alright - but having had a purse stolen before - I know it is just the most awful experience.
Beth - I'm so sorry to hear this - that is so awful. I'm glad you and your dog are alright but I know how much work it is to go through replacing all those things, especially at this time of year. Thinking of you - Michele
I was so upset when I heard this had happened! I rushed and told my mom because a similar thing had happened to her. We are so glad you, Izzy and the house are ok and that it didn't put too much of a damper on your holiday!
Oh my god, I am so sorry to hear about this. I was burglarized over the summer— it's a horribly violating experience. I'm glad to hear that he didn't get to the house, and that your dog is fine! I hope all is well. Lauren

Good Lord, creepier than it sounded with doors locked. Agree about wanting to prune the bastard. Have I ever mentioned I am pretty deadly (with stones) with a 10 pound sledge hammer? Adding paranoia to the mess, being in your dressing room makes me wonder if he reads blogs.Maybe a cross dressing, thieving, SOB. That breaking and entering (or however) makes my blood boil. I think you have endeared this holy hell with grace. Did note the bar is in the upside down tree room Very Alice in Wonderland!
