I am intrigued by the vases with flowers mounted on the balustrade of the bridge. I have seen other examples of this: for instance, the bridge of the Chinese House at Stowe (built around 1738) had such vases with flowers. But I can't work out what the original source for this motif would have been. I haven't seen it done in this way on actual Chinese bridges. Does someone know the answer?
