Chinoiserie Chic Returns with Michael Smith

After dozens of emails and comments decrying my decision to abandon Chinoiserie in favor of the boring, bland and banal Belgian look, I have reconsidered. One follower wrote that she was in tears all day, another is planning an intervention, another an exorcism, and another has suggested house arrest. Trust me, I have not been drinking the Kool-Aid-it was just my April Fool's version of a design War of the Worlds. I am pleased to announce that on Chinoserie Chic, de Gournay has defeated dumpster decor. Let's look today at a California home by Michael Smith. Don't miss the Chinese ancestor portraits and Chinoiserie cabinets in the living room juxtaposed against the red check curtains, the master bedroom with its de Gournay walls, celadon lamps, and garden stool, and the powder room wallpapered in Clarence House Shanghai Deco.

  1. You are a wicked girl, and you must be punished. Reggie was so horrified at your abandonment of the chic for the deadly dull, that he was unable to bring himself to comment. And now he finds that you were fun-ing us all along! Naughty, delightful Chic that you are...
