Happy Memorial Day

These are two wonderful children's rooms by Alessandra Branca-one in red and white, the other in blue and white. Above, create your own pagoda by tenting the ceiling as in this fabulous red and white playroom. Baskets and boxes on the bookshelves provide plenty of storage. The vinyl floor is kid friendly. The canvas window treatments can be shut for watching movies. Below, blue and white stripes and a Chinoiserie wallpaper combine in this summery and nautical boy's bedroom. The striped fabric runs up the wall and over the beds to create a half-tester, and is used to trim the headboards. If you don't own Alessandra's book New Classic Interiors, treat yourself this Memorial Day. It is one of my favorite books on interior design. Alessandra has also started a blog-click here. Happy Memorial Day to everyone.

Red, White, and Blue Chinoiserie

A red, white, and blue palette works exceptionally well with Chinoiserie. It is the perfect choice with blue and white Chinese porcelain, blanc de Chine, and red or black lacquer pieces. It has a fresh and clean look that works beautifully in a beach house, country home, or anywhere. These wonderful red, white, and blue fabrics and wallpapers are all from Thibaut.
