I'm A Giant Challenge

I have been having so much fun with this I'm a Giant Challenge that it should be illegal. My dollhouse arrives by FEDEX tomorrow and I can't wait. In the meantime, I have been snatching up Chinoiserie minis everywhere. When this is all finished, I might have to figure out a way to shrink myself so I can live in it.

I have been struggling with what to do for my weekly updates as I don't want the final reveal to be a letdown because I have already shown you all my rooms. I want to be able to make everyone in blogland shut your eyes while I say, "One, two, three, now open your eyes" and you all gasp and cover your mouths, just like on HGTV. One idea is to show you each week one of my finds. Above are three great little Chinoiserie pieces I just picked up - a matching Imari plate (1") and umbrella stand (2"), and a tiny Buddha (1").  These are all vintage pieces from the seller's mother's estate.

Once I get the dollhouse assembled, I can start planning things like wallpaper, window treatments, and floors. You will be quite surprised by my choice of dollhouses. The house I live in is an old Georgian colonial. I wanted my fantasy dollhouse to be quite different and it certainly is.

  1. In my never-to-be humble opinion, you should share each room with us as it is completed. In truth, if you make us wait until the entire dollhouse is finished, it will be too much to take in all at one time. We, your faithful followers, can better appreciate the nuances of your tiny house if you share them with us one room at a time. Speaking for myself, I'd like to see photos of everything, as it happens. That's the best way for all of us to feel a part of the project. It may be less dramatic, but it would be more fun.

  3. Oh my! How fun, my mom and aunt worked on a dollhouse together many years ago and put it in a dollhouse show ... they won "honorable mention" .. I still have it upstairs in my attic waiting for one day when it can have a coming out party for little girl grandchildren!! More than the beauty of the house, it is the memories they had of working on it together. Thank you for sharing this with us ... I agree ... at least give us sneak peaks along the way ... please??? We are cheering you on!!

  6. Love that you are doing a dollhouse! I just ordered a room box to make a french bakery and it just arrived. It has been a passion of mine since I was little and put it on the shelf for sometime and recently decided life is too short do what you love! I had so much fun ordering everything. I love chinoiserie too and i have found over the years some great blue and white pieces for my dollhouse...will have to send you links when I come across some great finds. Can't wait to see your pictures!
