Chinoiserie Modern Art

On a recent One Kings Lane sale, I purchased this limited edition, numbered, signed serigraph by Donald Sultan for Lincoln Center's 2008 Mozart Festival called Mimosas. I will be very interested to see this framed. I love the colors and the modern Chinoiserie feel of it. Stay tuned. Have a great day. Not very spring-like here alas.

Latest Incredible Chinoiserie Find

Yesterday, with exactly 5 minutes to browse before another appointment, I popped into my favorite thrift store and immediately spotted four mirrored Chinoiserie "de Gournayesque" placemats. Each had a price tag of $150 from a local boutique-they are marked Dransfield & Ross and I have several of their pieces. I nonchalantly inquired as to their thrift store price and was told $35 each. Sold!!!!! For inquiring minds, I have shown them with my Lenox Morning Blossom china, Kirk Stieff Williamsburg Shell silver, Kate Spade Larabee Dot saucer champagne glass, and Kim Seybert linen napkin.

Clarence House David Hicks The Vase

Yesterday Aesthetic Oiseau posted this Ruthie Sommers room above that followers of Chinoiserie Chic may have identified as one of my favorite wallpapers and fabrics, Clarence House The Vase by David Hicks. Below are many marvelous examples of this dramatic, classic, iconic pattern. Click here if you'd like to have two yards of your own fabric in the gorgeous blue colorway at a fabulous price.

My Latest Chinoiserie Find

I love my latest thrift store purchase-this wonderful Chinese ginger jar. It still had its original price tag of $600 from a very high end local store; I got it for $75. I really like its large size (24") and colors. I am awaiting some great leopard fabric for my dining chairs I got at Mary McDonald's One Kings Lane sale, and my dining room will be done. Stay tuned for the reveal soon.

Vintage Chinoiserie Silk Pillows

These stunning throw pillows, custom made from vintage Chinoiserie silk, are available on Etsy here at High Street Market. With down inserts and backed in linen, one would be the perfect accent for a bed, chair, or sofa.

Brackets of Chinoiserie

The current April issue of House Beautiful is quite spectacular, in no small part due to another wonderful apartment by Miles Redd (the top three photos) entitled Color Confidence. In contrast, perhaps we could start calling that whole Restoration Hardware/Belgian look Color Paranoia? I especially like the dining room in the top photo with its collection of celadon vases on plaster brackets. Below are other wonderful versions of Chinoiserie collections-Blanc de Chine and blue and white porcelain on brackets.
