One Room Challenge: Lighting and Caffeine

I made wonderful progress in my kitchen this week. My electrician installed the Z Gallerie Linear Strand Crystal Chandelier, a fabulous knockoff of the iconic Cellula Chandelier at a fraction of the price. Excuse the ceiling only shot, but I don't want to show you too much of what I've been up to this week! I love the modern/glam/industrial vibe. I decided against the more obvious choice of a faux bamboo chandelier or pagoda lantern.

I also set up my Nespresso coffee bar where I make the most exquisite coffees just like a real barista. No more Starbucks for me. And Starbucks does not have Chinese Chippendale cups and pagoda stirrers. The shots below are of three fabulous kitchens with my chandelier, so you can see what it looks like. Next up, having the window treatment installed (using my all time favorite Chinoiserie fabric) and finishing the gallery wall. You can always find all my One Room Challenge posts by clicking on the ORC button in my sidebar.

  1. beth - i LOVE the chandelier in there. GREAT choice. I love that you went for something less obvious and less chinois for the light ... it will really make an impact when you do add in the other chinois accents (IMHO).

also - couldnt agree more on nespresso. i have the citiz and sadly, i have it under the sink in the cabinet currently. sounds so snobbish to say this aloud, but i got so hooked on the pods and the espresso and mixing drinks that I needed to reign back in and drink regular coffee for a bit, so I didnt take it for granted. i got one of those Chemex'es and and brewing a cup or two at a time. I love it too! But I pull out the good ole' aerochinno to froth some warm milk.

  9. Hi Beth -- When I saw the post on your new light fixture, I had to comment since we chose the same light for our kitchen dining area! Did you put yours on a dimmer switch? It provides great ambiance! You were smart to have an electrician install it -- we did it ourselves and it was a challenge! This is the light in our home (and you can see what you missed by not installing it yourself!):

Great to see it in your kitchen, and look forward to seeing more photos of the finished space!

  11. Totally unexpected bling glam! What fun. Envy that you can get a new kitchen look without down to studs gut I'm living through and the $$$$$ I've spent on rewiring, new electrical service etc. Every time I turn on a dimmer, I hope that pain grown dimmer!

So looking forward to seeing all in place. Gotta' go. Need a another cup of coffee.

  12. I love your new light fixture, Beth! I created one similar to this from an existing light fixture, dollar store glass beads and fishing line. Yours is much prettier!
