DIY Chinoiserie Bedroom

Elle Decor
I love the simplicity of this Chinoiserie bedroom and the great news is you can do this yourself, without breaking the bank. First, wallpaper with a Chinoiserie wallpaper. Wonderful well-priced paper is out there - I am a big fan of Thibaut. Or stencil the walls with Chinoiserie - did you see this stenciled powder room? With some artistic ability, you can even paint the walls yourself like Mrs. Blandings here or Gorgeous Shiny Things here.

Add the Pottery Barn Teen Maison Canopy Bed (also available in white) starting at $499. We used this in my daughter's apartment and I just bought one for my guest bedroom and I love this bed. It is wonderful draped - very French or left bare - very architectural.

Add the fabulous and so cheap Ikea Maskros Pendant Lamp at $39.99.

The simple white bedding and roman shade are easily found at every price point.

If space and budget allow, reupholster a vintage settee in lavender and add pillows.

Love it all except the giant shell. Sort of creepy.

Now I am Sick

I posted on Sunday about some pieces that I lost out on that I still think about, like this pair of lamps that sold on eBay for $250 shown below. They are now on sale on 1st dibs for $5800. Now that's quite a mark-up! I think I'll pass.

Chinoiserie Napkins Revealed

I have had so many emails about the napkins bottom left peeking out of my kitchen drawer in the One Room Challenge. They are by Kim Seybert.

Modern Art in My Living Room

Originally my living room had only one oil painting above the sofa, pictured below. As you know, I have become enamored with the combination of abstract modern art and Chinoiserie and have started adding modern pieces to my home. In my living room, I had switched out the traditional painting with a Helen Frankenthaler Lincoln Center giclee after seeing these rooms below by Mario Buatta and Eileen Kathryn Boyd.

But the gallery wall in my kitchen One Room Challenge gave me the idea of turning this area into a grouping of abstract art as well. I first turned to my very talented sponsor - artist Susan Brown of the Etsy shop Bohemian Romance to create this lovely abstract on the bottom right picking up the blue, turquoise, pink, green, and yellow in the room. I love it. Her Etsy store is filled with stunning Chinoiserie art and abstracts. I then added this very chic Louis Vuitton inspired piece on the top right (yesterday) by Etsy artist Jennifer Latimer of Gilded Mint. My daughter is a fashion stylist and the two of us are wild about her art, much of it inspired by collections by fashion designers like Chanel, Prada, Louis Vuitton and Missoni. I am now on the hunt for a piece to add on the left.

I also have very exciting news about my daughter's apartment. Before the painters had even finished, she had a request for a photo shoot of her place next week. We are now madly trying to get the entire redecorating project slated for a couple of months done in one week! Insane. Full details and a reveal next week of her apartment if we are both still alive.

Blue and White (& Orange)

More Miles Redd

A decidedly masculine take on Chinoiserie here by Miles Redd in this entryway with a pair of blue and white ginger jars, a blue and white Chinese garden stool, and a black Ming bench juxtaposed against classical elements and a boldly geometric painted floor.

Miles Redd

I know you will enjoy the way Miles Redd used Chinoiserie in this traditional Atlanta home called Boxwood featured last year in Town & Country.

The Many That Got Away

Chinoiserie wallpaper - outbid on eBay
Are you haunted by items you missed out on - too late on One Kings Lane, outbid on eBay, or passed it up at the store and went back and it was gone? Here are my top five items that I keep pictures of just to drive myself crazy, thinking they might reappear.

Gold pagoda chandelier - outbid on eBay

Kate Spade vase - not on my radar screen until after it was discontinued

Pair of gold dot lamps - missed out on eBay

Silk ikat bolster - too late on One Kings Lane
