One Room Challenge - Week Five

Here we are at Week 5 of the One Room Challenge and I. CAN. NOT. WAIT. to show you my room next week. It has turned out a zillion times better than I ever dreamed.

One of the best things about doing a man cave for my husband has been the opportunity to use pieces I love that just don't work elsewhere in my home.

1. A sputnik chandelier
2. A Beni Ourain rug
3. Black and white photography
4. A leather butterfly chair
5. A juju hat

1. The sputnik chandelier is an iconic mid century modern lighting fixture and a huge favorite of mine. I so wanted one for the man cave with an industrial edge. With only 8 foot ceilings, I searched and searched and everything was either too big or too glitzy/shiny or too expensive.

I stumbled upon Lucent Lightshop on Etsy and discovered that they custom make sputniks in raw brass or raw steel in your exact specs at great prices. You can choose the drop, number of arms, arm lengths, etc. They could not be nicer or more accommodating to work with and I cannot recommend them highly enough. This is the fixture I chose above and it is a show stopper. Absolutely sensational. They also make sputnik sconces, semi - flush mounts, all sorts of choices. Wait until you see it in the room.

2. I love Beni Ourain rugs and have been dying to use one in my home. I chose a traditional diamond style. It is vintage and I won it at auction locally. I was nervous about a white rug with my dog and husband using this room so much, but it doesn't show anything. I love it!

3. I love black and white photography and the man cave was the perfect spot for it. I got the next two pieces from Minted, a wonderful sponsor of The One Room Challenge with a huge selection of great limited edition prints.

This next piece is by an Etsy photographer who I ordered four pieces from for the same wall. Her work is amazing and I will share it all with you in the reveal. I hope my husband likes bovines.

4. The leather butterfly chair is another mid century modern classic I love. I got this one at Overstock and it's great.

5. I love juju hats, but once again, needed a place it would work in my house and the man cave is just the spot. I got this beautiful and huge one in white at Horchow and could not be happier.

All that is left is to make sure everything is perfect for the photo shoot and this room is finished and fabulous.

I was even able to use lots of manly Chinoiserie in the room. You will see foo dogs, ginger jars, Greek key, pagodas, elephants, zebras, and more, all with a masculine edge.

Best of all - my husband loves it. His birthday fell right in the middle of this One Room Challenge and I got him a flat screen TV and after that I could do no wrong in the room. He is a happy camper.

Let's see what the rest of the gang has been up to -

The Beni Ourain and the Man Cave

Elle Decor

A very busy and fun next week is on tap here at Chinoiserie Chic.

Tomorrow is the next to the last weekly post on the One Room Challenge with the reveal next Wednesday, May 7.

I have to get the room all ready for its photo shoot this weekend.

This Sunday, May 4, is my 5 Year Blog Anniversary with a very special giveaway to be announced.

Monday, May 5 is the Blue and White Bash at The Pink Pagoda.

Wednesday, May 7 is the One Room Challenge Reveal.

I'm exhausted just thinking about it all.

I thought I would do some posts starting today featuring some of the major design elements I have chosen for the Chinoiserie Man Cave.

Today we will focus on the Beni Ourain rug. I have wanted one of these rugs for years, but it was not right in the rest of my house. It is a bit too hip, modern, and color neutral for many of my rooms.

For the man cave it is so perfect.  The room is on the lower level of the house and is cooler temperature wise. The shaggy wool of the Beni Ourain makes the room look and feel so much cozier! And its black and white is perfect with the palette in the man cave of black, gray, and white. I love its tribal and geometric qualities and the way it anchors the room. I can't wait for you to see it.

Here are some rooms with Beni Ourain rugs that have the style I am going for in the man cave.

Jamie is now offering her interior design services online. Jamie has given me all the details on how this works to share with you.

"JH Online is a unique concept, whereby we can work together on the design of your room(s) via email. It is super easy and just as thorough and fun as working with Jamie in person!

What it entails - you send photos and dimensions of the areas that we would be working together on, along with a brief description of each area, as to what you would like to see happen. For instance, area rugs, furniture, accessories, window coverings, wall treatments, paint color, fabric selections. We will also need to see inspiration photos so we can have an understanding of your style and the look you are going for.

Then we present you with a flat price for the work to be done. You are always welcome to email or call as much as you would like, we want all of our clients to feel happy and secure as this is a wonderful process. From there, we get started.

Once you have approved all of the drawings and selected furnishes, we can then begin purchasing all of the pieces that will transform your space. All the purchasing is done through Jamieshop. One of my favorite color palettes is coral pink and celadon used with black and gold. I love the mix here with antiques and the piece of art by Paule Marrot.
